As the sun begins to set on another magical First Session at Laurel South, the past few days have been nothing short of spectacular. From sunrise to starlight, the energy around camp has been contagious. Laughter has echoed through the trees, friendships have grown deeper, and memories have been made that will last long after the summer ends. Whether campers were paddleboarding on Crescent Lake or sharing stories in the cabin, every moment felt meaningful.
This week saw two of our biggest camp traditions come to life on the fields. The legendary Moosebowl flag football game delivered all the thrills and excitement we’ve come to expect – campers and staff alike packed the sidelines, in their their black and red, cheering every play, celebrating teamwork, and reveling in the incredible sportsmanship that defines the Laurel South spirit. Meanwhile, the Katahdin Cup girls’ soccer match was one for the ages – a fiercely competitive showdown between Camden City and Acadia United that left everyone in awe. Both teams played with heart, determination, and an obvious love for the game.
As if the action on the fields wasn’t enough, the stage was shining just as brightly. Campers dazzled us with two incredible theatre productions that showcased talent, courage, and creativity. From singing to dancing to acting their hearts out, our campers once again reminded us why the arts are such a vital part of camp life. And, of course, Moose Stock – our in-house music festival – brought the camp together through the universal language of music and fun. Campers and counselors jammed, sang, and enjoyed delicious food.
As we head into our final day, the past two days of programming have been a true grand finale. From sunrise activities to evening surprises, we pulled out all the stops and soaked up every last ounce of fun this summer had to offer. Tonight, we gather in celebration for our closing banquet – a beloved Laurel South tradition – with lobster, steak, and all the fixings.
Tomorrow we pack our bags, but the memories we’ve made here simply can’t be zipped up in duffles or shipped home. They live in the moments we enjoyed, the games we played, and the friendships we built. Laurel South is where friends become family and memories never fade — no matter how far you travel.
